THEEWATERSKLOOF MUNICIPALITY
MEDIA STATEMENT – MUNICIPALITY DISTRIBUTES REFUSE BINS TO ENHANCE WASTE MANAGEMENT AND CURB ILLEGAL DUMPING
A delegation of local Councillors, the Municipal Manager, and the Town Manager of Grabouw undertook a significant initiative last week to improve waste management in the Rooidakke, Hillside, and Klip Kop areas.
More than 80 residents in these communities, who have been without refuse bins for years, received brand new wheelie refuse bins directly at their homes.
In addition to distributing wheelie bins to households, the Municipality will ensure that five refuse bins are delivered to both the local hospital and the police station.
This effort is part of a broader strategy by the Theewaterskloof Municipality to enhance the efficiency of refuse collection and address ongoing environmental concerns.

Municipal Manager, Wilfred Solomons-Johannes, emphasised the importance of this initiative.
“We are committed to improving the quality of life for our residents. By providing these refuse bins, we want to facilitate more efficient refuse collection, reduce the reliance on refuse bags collected in caged trucks, and transition to using only our compactors, which work much faster,” he said.
The Municipality’s initiative is also a proactive measure to combat illegal dumping, which has been a persistent problem in the area.
The availability of refuse bins is expected to encourage residents to dispose of their waste responsibly, thereby reducing the instances of refuse being dumped along streets and into rivers.
Executive Deputy Mayor John Michels highlighted the environmental impact of the initiative.
“Illegal dumping not only hides the beauty of our community but also poses significant health risks. With these new bins, we hope to see a notable decrease in illegal dumping, leading to a cleaner and safer environment for all in Grabouw,” he said.
The Theewaterskloof Municipality remains dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to waste management challenges and asks all residents to make use of the new bins to ensure a cleaner and healthier community.
