Today Theewaterskloof Municipality formally signed a partnership agreement with Working on Fire (WoF), after first announcing the plan to enter into an agreement in June 2023.
WoF addresses the prevention and control of wildland fires, thus enhancing the sustainability and protection of life, poverty, and the environment. This is done through the implementation of Integrated Fire Management (IFM) practices, which will play an integral part in helping the municipality fight fires and create jobs.
WoF contributes to the EPWP Programmes and the spreading of relative wealth amongst families who participate in the WoF programmes.
As part of this agreement the municipality will have two firefighting teams based in the Theewaterskloof area. One will be based in the Greyton area and the other in the Grabouw area.
WoF’s national fire-fighting resources safes lives, and economic damage caused by wildfires, and it uses fire to control invasive alien plants to co-ordinate fire management interventions as to optimize the use of resources.
“Through this agreement the municipality will enhance municipal service delivery and we welcome the fruitful and productive relationship between the two parties,” said Municipal Manager Wilfred Solomons-Johannes.
WoF will, amongst others, be utilized for post fire rehabilitation, partners assistance, base maintenance, road maintenance, patrolling and fence maintenance, erosion control, environmental clean-up projects and fire awareness.
