Theewaterskloof Municipality would like to alert our community, contractors, and businesses to the circulation of fraudulent contract award notices being sent by fraudsters. These fake notices are designed to appear authentic, often including our logos, fabricated signatures, and falsified details.
Scammers are not only using email to distribute these fake notices but are also making phone calls, including from the number 076 250 8493, among others, to falsely inform individuals or companies that tenders have been awarded to them. These scams are often aimed at obtaining personal or financial information under false pretences.
We strongly advise the public:

These fraudulent documents can typically be identified by the following:
- Poor resolution of municipal logos or inaccurate use of branding.
- Headings such as “Strategic Supply Chain Management,” which are not used by the municipality.
- Dates written in informal formats (e.g., “Jan” instead of “January”).
- Inconsistencies in the pens or ink used to sign and date documents.
- Poor grammar, unprofessional language, handwritten elements, and minor discrepancies in wording or formatting.
These notices may look convincing at first glance but are not issued by Theewaterskloof Municipality.
We urge all companies and contractors to be vigilant and verify any notice by contacting our Operations Call Centre at 080 021 4730 or our Finance department.
Report any suspicious notices, emails, or phone calls to us immediately!
