TWK Launches First Awareness Children’s Booklet During National Library Week

Theewaterskloof Municipality has officially launched its first-ever water awareness children’s booklet, Tekile and the Drops that Matter, as part of activities marking National Library Week and National Water Month.
The booklet was launched this week at Swartberg Primary School in Caledon, where learners participated in an interactive read-along session introducing them to Tekile, a character who teaches children about the importance of protecting and saving water.
The initiative forms part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to promote water conservation awareness, particularly among young learners.
Through storytelling, colourful illustrations and practical examples, the booklet encourages children to understand that every drop of water counts and that simple actions at home and school can help protect this precious resource.
This project is a first for Theewaterskloof Municipality, developed to provide schools, libraries and communities with an engaging educational tool to support responsible water use.
The booklet is available in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa, ensuring that the message reaches as many young readers as possible across our communities.
The launch forms part of a broader National Library Week programme, which began with the inaugural Library Week Fun Walk held in Caledon last week, bringing together community members to celebrate reading, knowledge and the important role libraries play in our communities.
Over the course of National Library Week, municipal library staff have continued hosting read-along sessions at schools and libraries across all towns within Theewaterskloof, allowing more learners to engage with the story, activity sheets and its important message.
In addition to printed copies available through municipal libraries, digital and audio versions of the booklet will be made available on the municipal website and social media platforms following the Library Week rollout. This will allow families, educators, and community organisations to easily access and share the resource.
The launch comes at a particularly important time as dam levels across provinces remain lower than usual and Theewaterskloof Municipality is currently under Level 1 water restrictions. Educational initiatives such as this booklet help reinforce the role every resident can play in protecting our water resources.
Residents are encouraged to support the initiative by sharing the story with children and promoting responsible water use in their homes and communities.
Every drop truly matters.
