Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Programme for Chefs

Theewaterskloof Municipality would like to inform tourism and hospitality stakeholders of an exciting opportunity offered by the Department of Tourism.

Applications are now open for the Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL) Programme for Chefs in the Western Cape. This programme provides experienced chefs who do not have a formal qualification with the opportunity to obtain a Chef Occupational Certificate (NQF Level 5) through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

The Department of Tourism will fund 100% of the tuition fees and learning materials for successful applicants.

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens aged 19 years or older.
  • Have a minimum of Grade 10 (or equivalent).
  • Have at least three years’ experience working as a chef in a brigade kitchen.
  • Be able to read and write English.
  • Be willing to attend assessment and training sessions at the appointed trade centre in the Western Cape.

Applicants must submit:

  • A motivation letter.
  • A detailed CV.
  • Proof of work experience.
  • Certified copies of their South African ID and qualifications.
  • Proof of residence.
