Salary: T15 – Between R482 232.00 p.a. – R625 992.00 p.a. plus a travel allowance of R9231.98 per month under certain conditions.
Responsibilities would involve the following: Provide legal advisory services to Council and other decision makers within the municipality. * Prepare, review and when required negotiate agreements and contracts on all municipal – related matters. Comment on reports and recommendations to Council. Liaise with lawyers regarding litigation issues on behalf of Council * Ensure legal compliance in terms of national legislation and by-laws and instituting the necessary corrective measures to address and rectify deviations * Decide in conjunction with the Deputy Director Corporate Services which legal issues can be dealt with internally and which should be referred to Council’s attorneys * Distribute new legislation and amendments to Council and Directors. Prepare legal opinions and interpret legislation. Investigate, prosecute and chair disciplinary hearings * Represent Council in the South African Local Bargaining Council Conciliations, Arbitrations, CCMA and Labour Court * Research relevant Case Law and prepare case reports in preparation of disputes * other admin duties as requested from time to time.
